Ingenious, Blokus and Qwirkle named in the 50 Best Board Games by The Independent

The Independent has a great section called ‘The 50 Best …’ and the3y recently named a few of our favourite games in the 50 Best Board Games.

Ingenious can be played by two, three or four players, with additional rules provided for solo and four-player partnership play. Each player has a rack of six randomly-chosen tiles which are concealed from the other players. The board is also made up of a number of hexagons, with the two outermost rings reserved for three- and four-player games respectively. The rules state that the youngest player takes the first turn, although where multiple games are played it is common practice for the first turn to rotate clockwise around the board in subsequent games.

Qwirkle is played by giving each player 6 tiles. On the first players turn 3 things can be done. The player can place a tile on the board and then draw again (to retain six tiles). The player can also add two or more tiles to the board, all of these tiles must share at least 1 attribute however (colour, or shape), they must be played in 1 line although they do not need to touch. After playing tiles, a player draws back up to 6 tiles. Or, a player can trade in 1 or more of his or her tiles and pass their turn.

Blokus is a great strategy game where each player takes it in turn to lay down pieces on the board connected to their existing pieces. The object is to occupy as much space as possible and lay out all of your won pieces whilst preventing your opponent from laying out all of theirs. Fiendishly simple!
